OVERVIEW: We are in search of a new Chief Marketing Officer. Semrush is defining a new quadrant of Online Visibility that is a combination of SEO, Digital PR, Content Marketing, Social Media, and Data Analytics. The company has been growing 35% a year over the last two years, and we are close to breaking even! Our CEO and Executive Team just brought the company public and is looking for a Rockstar CMO who is both analytical and creative. The CMO will need to focus heavily on new customer acquisition and use both the art and science of marketing as their levers for success.

POSITION: This is a huge initiative for our team. This CMO position reports directly to the CEO. You will inherit lead a team of 150 people globally, and be responsible for about $50M in marketing spend. They are rockstars who try new things, innovate, and deliver impactful results for the business. You will be working on leading and developing a strong team of marketers that will be critical to the growth of the company. We are looking for a marketing professional who appreciates and has the experience and the right balance between the Art and Science of marketing.

COMPANY: New quadrant of Online Visibility that is a combination of SEO, Digital PR, Content Marketing, Social Media and Data Analytics. The company has been growing 35% a year over the last two years and is close to breaking even.

LOCATION: Most of the executive team lives on the East Coast. Ideal candidates will already live on the East Coast and/or be willing to relocate to Boston. We are also open to international candidates who can qualify for a US work visa and are willing to relocate within the first year with the company.

COMPENSATION: This is a key hire. We will put together the right package for the right person. Comp package will include base, bonus, equity, and full benefits package. We want someone who is incentivized and committed to the team’s success. The CMO will be a key member of the leadership team.

MANAGEMENT STYLE: This position reports to the CEO and will sit on the executive team. In this relationship, you will understand what is expected of you and will have clearly defined goals. We want someone who brings a new perspective but also respects the marketing machine that has been built and is motivated to spend time deeply understanding this and adding and improving to what is in place. Collaboration and counsel to peers on the executive team are also paramount.


  • Must have SMB and/or Consumer marketing, with a proven track record of building a marketing function. Ideally, this person will know MarTech platforms, have worked with the Semrush product or other competitive platforms. The individual should have proven success as a demand and retention marketer. This leader will be seen as the evangelist of the company’s capabilities and offerings.

  • Must be a Rockstar CMO or a CMO-ready leader that can continue to scale and build the brand for a high-growth, diverse company with multiple products in IPO environments AND also help us to manage and innovate our Demand Gen engine. Need someone who can use a strong Advisor approach with critical experience in go-to-market (GTM) strategies and the ability to work very collaboratively as a mature advisor and coach across a newly formed Business Unit structure. Need a candidate who thrives in understanding the challenges and change management needed to grow and evolve a global, geographically dispersed function.

  • Must have experience in managing a 50+ Million Marketing Budget. Own the marketing function, including demand and lead generation, customer acquisition and retention, digital experience, marketing analytics, and corporate brand. We are looking for data-driven decision-making and analytical rigor. Create a predictable and measurable funnel of leads to support new customer acquisition and customer upsell and cross-sell activity. Work with other internal teams and their leaders to Improve customer renewal and retention rates across product categories. Optimize the company's customer-facing digital experiences from a marketing perspective and work closely with Product, Customer Success and Sales teams.

  • Must be able to build a world-class brand and positioning. Drive the evolution of the brand through unique marketing campaigns to acquire new customers and foster loyalty among existing customers. Develop and optimize brand campaigns and experiences through leveraging data and your keen creative eye to give on-brand creative input. We need someone who is both analytical and creative and can make what we do exciting! Identify the target customer persona for each capability of the platform and craft supporting messaging and positioning to clearly articulate the value proposition, and in turn, continue to build and shape the brand.

  • Must be a strong leader and coach who has run or built a larger team (50+) previously. Ideal candidates will have the ability to develop and retain a world-class marketing team. A strong track record of high-impact leadership with a focus on team building, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration will be the number one priority.
